Driving Renovation and Recovery Efforts to Restore Baker High School as a Pillar of the Community

In August 2016, catastrophic floods in South Louisiana devastated the City of Baker and its public school system. Baker High School, the community's historic flagship institution, was among the affected facilities. Despite years of effort to reopen the school, FEMA-funded renovations and disaster recovery remained unfinished.

In January 2024, Baker Public Schools selected CSRS to assist in completing the construction in time for the Fall 2024 school year. CSRS immediately collaborated with the contractor, architect, and FEMA to:

  • Verify the status of long lead materials.

  • Expedite construction submittal approvals with the architect.

  • Secure FEMA funding through coordination with GOHSEP.

  • Initiate planning and coordination for furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E), a task previously unaddressed.

CSRS also provided key communication and project management services, including monthly reports to the School Board and community and weekly meetings with the Superintendent, contractor, and architect to ensure timely and successful project delivery.

Thanks to these efforts, Baker High School reopened for the Fall 2024 school year, once again serving as a vital symbol of resilience and a cornerstone for the City of Baker's community and school system.

Today, CSRS continues to support Baker Public Schools as their disaster recovery consultant, ensuring they are prepared for future challenges.
